The “Nutrition During Pregnancy and Breastfeeding” Programme is designed for women planning a pregnancy, those with an uncomplicated pregnancy, and mothers during the postnatal and breastfeeding period. The plan is tailored to the trimester or stage of lactation, health status, symptoms, body weight, habits and family circumstances. Recommendations are evidence-based and informed by relevant guidance for each situation.
What’s included
- an initial consultation lasting up to 60 minutes and a review of relevant medical reports, medication and current supplements
- a personalised four-week meal plan with practical alternatives and guidance on organising meals
- guidance on food safety, hydration and managing common symptoms such as nausea, heartburn or constipation
- one follow-up consultation lasting up to 30 minutes and support throughout the four weeks in which the plan is being followed
Format
The plan is delivered within seven to ten working days. The programme does not replace assessment by the treating obstetrician, gynaecologist or paediatrician, and cannot guarantee that breast milk supply will be established or increased.
Gestational diabetes, hyperemesis, multiple or high-risk pregnancy, kidney disease, severe anaemia and other medically complex conditions are referred to the medical or complex nutrition therapy service, subject to documentation from the treating doctor.
